Course Description

In 2003, the Virginia General Assembly passed a law requiring all CPAs subject to Virginia CPE requirements to take an annual ethics CPE course. Sponsors and instructors must be approved annually and listed on the Virginia Board of Accountancy (VBOA) website. This two-hour training was developed specifically under the VBOA's guidelines to help you meet that requirement.

  • Satisfies the 2021 VBOA ethics CPE requirement and fulfills some requirements for the following jurisdictions:

    • Maryland: 2 hours

    • Washington, D.C.: 2 hours

    • West Virginia: 2 hours



  • Relevant to Virginia CPAs working in public practice, industry, government, nonprofits, and academia

  • Although directly targeted to ethics for Virginia CPAs, this training can be used to satisfy ethics CPE requirements for IIA certifications, CFEs, and some others When in doubt, please check the specific requirements of your individual certification

  • Uses case-based instruction to consider relevant ethical dilemmas

  • Define Virginia Board of Accountancy (VBOA) general requirements for CPAs

  • Recall the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Code of Professional Conduct and how it relates to enforcement cases

  • Distinguish clarifications to the volunteerism guidelines for CPAs in Virginia

  • Identify ethical issues that abound for CPAs in public practice, industry, or government

  • List rules and regulations that guide the profession in the state of Virginia

  • Identify different ethical decision-making models

  • Evaluate decision-making models to make informed decisions during an ethical dilemma
